A Sweeter Love

Here's my update on A Sweeter Love. I love working on this piece. I'm learning more about the missing letters in the alphabet. As I've said in the past, the letters J and V are missing. I realized also the letter Q is missing, probably because it's so similar to O. I noticed that P is missing also, but that's not because of the alphabet being used as a teaching tool in the 1800's, it's because THE STITCHER CAN'T READ A CHART!! The top alphabet is missing P because I missed it on the chart. What a dope. Now I have to decide if I'm going to frog the latter part of the alphabet and put the P in or leave it the way it is. I've had enough frogs at my house, I would really like them to leave.
A really good friend of mine suggested I wait until I'm done with the piece to decide if I'm going to frog that alphabet or leave it as is. What great advice!! I love this friend. Not only is she sensible, she's one of the most encouraging and straight forward people I know. I could add that she's also extremely kind. I am truly blessed to have her as a friend.

I think I agree with your friend. You should wait until you are done before you decide about the alphabet. Just from the picture, it does not seem to be too out of balance the way it is. However, when you are done, it will be your decision if you can live with it the way it is. If it still bothers you, change it. You need to satisfied with the end product.

Such a pretty piece. If you like honesty, i would have to say i'd need to frog it out and put the P in as i would be forever thinking i should have altered it, sorry.

That is one very wise friend :o) That way you won't be as frustrated and have a clearer mind. Thankfully, it's not that much to frog.

It's looking so lovely!

This is such a sweet sampler. I love the looks of it. I agree with your friend to wait before you make any decisions. It made my day to hear that other people make some of the same mistakes that I do!

I think I'd have to stitch the letter P but it won't hurt to leave it for a while before going back to it.
I love this design and look forward to seeing more of your progress on it.
What you've done so far is beautifully stitched.

This is such a pretty piece. I never knew why letters were left out either so was interested to read your previous post.
I hate frogging but i generally just do it because i cant forget about my mistakes

You've made wonderful progress, it looks great. At this point I agree with your friend, wait and see how it looks in the end. Since it has other letters that are missing, it isn't like it is the only one so would really look odd. Also, very few people are going to go through the alphabet, so most will never notice any are missing. If it still bugs you at the end you could adjust, but a little distance from realizing you did it will help you decide what you really want to do (or not do) with it.

I aggree with your friend. I think it looks really good and maybe if you leave out the P it can be like your own version.
It's such a pretty design, really lovely

Very pretty. Mistakes drive me crazy. :( I usually just bite the bitter pill and fix it because it's hard to go farther with it.

This piece is gorgeous. I think I'd have to agree with your friend and see how you feel when you've finished it.

good idea from your friend to leave it until you have finished, I can't believe I didnt notice in the earlier pic . It looks a great design

That's such a pretty design. I think I would leave the alphabet as is and see how many people notice!

I had a good friend one time tell me that a cross stitch pattern is just a suggestion. What you do with it is a matter of individual taste and design. So - leave out the P and like Wendy says - see how many people notice it and comment. You can always tell them you took "artistic license"

Hi thanks for stopping by my blog.
Your stitching looks great! I was reading in a book about samplers most have errors in them, it is what makes them unique. So it sounds like a good idea to just wait and fix it later if you like.

That is so funny! I would wait too.

It's a very pretty piece, missing letters or not.

It's a wonderful piece. I must Admit I would frog and fix it up. BUT you need to do what is best for you. Stitching is supposed to be fun remember!
We have all made these mistakes you are not alone!

I think very sensible advice to wait until the end - I suspect only you'll know, and it looks wonderful already - what's a 'P' here or there?!

It's beautiful. I didn't notice the missing p.

I agree I would wait. And I wonder just if anyone would really notice, if you didnt point it out.
Take Care!!

Yeah, leave it until the end & then decide. I admit, I didn't notice it until you put it in your post!

That is going to be so beautitful. I too agree with your friend, I would wait until I was done to decide. If the piece is completely stitched, it may not seem so bad to frog that area if that is what you decide.

Hehe. Looks fab anyway and I didnt notice. xx

Great advice from your friend! Right now it doesn't look unbalanced, but you never know how it will look when everything is filled in. Plus, given some time, the horrible memory of frogging will fade.

I didn't notice the missing P either! I say that since old samplers used to have letters missing bc they were similar to other letters (i.e., the "J" and the "T"), then you just leave out the P bc it looks an awful lot like the B! :) (Or you can do what I do and just consider frogging it in the end, as your friend said; sometimes by the time I reach the end of a project, I've grown used to the way a mistake looks and I end up just leaving it there after all!)
Btw, your Village of HRH is amazing.. I've only got one block done!

I think you should wait until the end. If you can live with it that long, then just put a couple of stitches in at the end if you need to fill in the gap. I'm sure no one will notice. If you can't live with it, then you'll have to frog. But it's lovely as it is.

I think part of the fun of samplers by real people is this "mistake" thing! It makes them so uniquely ours! :) It's looking great to me!! Hugs, Deb
