Update on A Sweeter Love

This is where I've gotten on A Sweeter Love. That chain band you see under the alphabet took me almost 6 hours to stitch! Do you believe that? It was such an intricate band. I consider myself someone who stitches at a moderate speed but this took much longer than I think it would have someone else.
I want to thank Kathy for letting me know why the "J" was missing from the 2 alphabets in this sampler. She said samplers used to be used as teaching tools and since "J" is similar to a "T" they often left the "J" out of the alphabet. She also said they sometimes did the same thing with "U" and "V", and guess what? There isn't a "V" in this sampler either. So, thank you Kathy for educating me.

I hope everyone has a lovely weekend and thanks for all the great comments. They are appreciated ;)

6 hrs is well worth that beautiful band. I also read is a magazine they would leave J out to personlize it or intently make mistakes. Antique samplers go for big money when there are mistakes. Also they use to teach such young girls in school, that didnt have the experience, but it was only school. I can look it up and see what mag it was in recently, if you want? it's kind of interesting.

What a lovely sampler this is. And seems time consuming too. :-) Hope the rest goes quicker. Have a nice weekend.

That's a fantastic start! As long as you enjoyed those 6 hours, that's all that matters :o) Thank you for letting us know why the J was missing. I didn't know that.

That band is stunning. I can see why it took you 6 hours. The time invested is well worth it when the end result looks such as this. Thanks for the mini lesson in Sampler history. Interesting.

Nice progress, and how interesting on the missing letters. I'd noticed in many of the older samplers that sometimes a letter or two would be missing but didn't know why. Thanks for passing on the answer.

6 hours for such beautiful work is just great. There is so much joy in watching the stitches mount into a finished section. It was very interesting to learn about antique samplers. I will have to check closer when I see one in the future.
